Design work requires that you have the proper pinpoint precision to create your project. Using tools that don?t work as well as you would like will leave you wasting your time and leave you very frustrated. When I picked up the Razer Pro|Click mouse and Pro|Pad mouse surface, I was surprised by the sleek design of the products but I was very curious about its functionality.
The one thing that I had to do first was clear up some desk space to fit the 13 ?inch wide Pro|Pad. Once I made my increased my workspace for the Pro|Pad and plugged in my Razer Pro|Click mouse, I was ready for action.
And a Clicking We Will Go
The Razer Pro|Click version 1.6 is USB powered and uses an optical sensor to detect motion. By configuring the mouse through the Razer control panel, you can make the mouse extremely sensitive towards movements and clicks. Under the Control Panel?s Advanced Settings, there is where you can choose between the 400dpi and 1600dpi setting. A typical mouse uses the 400dpi setting but now you can gain more precise control by switching to 1600dpi. After making the change and closing out of the control panel, you will immediately notice the mouse pointer now blazing across your screen.
You will probably want to lower the Windows Pointer Speed Control and Master Sensitivity Control under Advanced Settings in the Control Panel to ease up on the speed but maintain the accuracy. I found that working in 1600dpi with a control setting around 5-6 will provide a good, manageable mouse environment.
The mouse buttons are designed to fit beneath your entire finger, which should provide for easier clicking since you are using more of your hand instead of your fingertip. While most mice buttons are separated by the scroll wheel and line of separation right beneath it, the Pro|Click?s buttons are molded to fit your entire finger on them comfortably. I found myself less inclined to life my hand off the mouse or applying pressure from my fingertips as I?ve always done using my old mouse.
I found that using the Razer Pro|Pad as my mousing surface instead of my desktop does increase the precision of the mouse slightly. For general use, you probably wouldn?t notice the difference but for professional graphic designers and others, you?re will probably want to consider the Pro|Pad to go along with the mouse.
The Razer Pro|Click 1.6 mouse is Mac and Windows compatible and the accompanying CD-ROM contains the drivers for both platforms.
The Final Word
I found the Razer Pro|Click 1.6 mouse to be an excellent replacement for my current optical mouse. The precision of the Pro|Click mouse was better than I initially anticipated. I?ve never used a mouse that had buttons running along the side of the mouse so I had to spend time getting comfortable with them. The one on the left side was easier to access since I had my thumb rested near it but the button on the right side of the mouse was a lot more difficult to activate. I chalk that up to a lack of experience using the device than a design flaw though. Once you get used to the side buttons, you?ll wonder how you ever lived without them.
I really liked the Razer control panel as it offered a wide-array of configurable options. I also enjoyed the Pro|Click?s response using the Pro|Pad mousing surface but I just wish the surface wasn?t as wide. I found myself only needing about half of the 13-inch wide surface whether it was doing design work or just general web surfing. Even though you can use the Pro|Click mouse without the Pro|Pad surface, I found that the mouse is a little more responsive on the Pro|Pad. Razer has mentioned that a wireless version of the Pro|Click mouse is in the works.
Overall, I found the Razer Pro|Click version 1.6 mouse to be an excellent replacement for your current mouse especially if you?re doing graphic design work or if just want more accuracy from their mouse. Working in combination with the dual sided Pro|Pad mousing surface, these two products work together in perfect harmony. The Razer Pro|Click 1.6 mouse and the Pro|Pad earn a 5-star recommendation.
