As president and COO, Moore's responsibilities will include directing Sega's console and online gaming businesses in North America, including all product and business development, marketing, sales, operations and content. Moore brings more than a decade of leadership experience to the helm, which includes a previous presidential role. As senior vice president of marketing for Sega, Moore was a driving force behind the Sega Dreamcast launch. Thanks to the successful marketing and communications campaigns Moore orchestrated, Sega Dreamcast netted more than $97 million in the product's first day at retail, more than tripling the past entertainment industry record set by Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, which garnered $28 million on its first day. In addition to managing a marketing budget of more than $100 million, Moore was responsible for supervising all strategic and outbound marketing efforts for the brand and the next generation console. Beyond marketing, Moore has also been instrumental in all areas of Sega's re-emergence into the home game console market, from reestablishing the relationship with retail customers to extending the scope of Sega's partnership program with AT&T, Excite@Home and third party publishers. "As Sega gears up for a critical year, we know the company will be in good hands with Peter Moore. After we witnessed the incredible launch he orchestrated and experienced his impeccable leadership skills first hand, we knew there was no better candidate for the job," said Shoichiro Irimajiri, President, Sega Enterprises Ltd. "Peter has the strength, depth and experience to oversee all aspects of our multi-layered company, and will be able to continue giving Sega the strategic direction it needs as the company focuses on online console gaming." High regard for Moore's accomplishments exist beyond Sega -- widely recognized as a passionate leader and visionary. "Peter has what it takes to bring Sega back to its true birthright as a leading gaming company," said Bill Gardner, president, Capcom Entertainment. "From day one, we were impressed with his understanding of our business, partnership orientation and his commitment to continually pushing the envelope in redefining this industry." "This is a very big day for Sega. A strong marketing influence at the helm is exactly what the company needs," said Pete Roithmayr, vice president of merchandising, videogame division, Electronics Boutique. "Peter's passion is contagious. Looking back at the Sega Dreamcast launch, he truly put this brand back on the map. Peter is uniquely qualified to provide leadership and also to ensure that Sega and its partners, including EB, exceed our business objectives." Holding the title of president is nothing new to Moore. His past work experience includes serving as president of Patrick USA, the U.S. subsidiary of the popular French sportswear company for more than four years. For nearly a decade, he managed all of the company's operations including marketing, sales, finance and distribution. He was awarded the company's coveted Founder's Award for Global Executive of the Year in 1991, recognizing his ability to effectively manage all aspects of a company and its growth. Prior to working for Sega, Moore served as senior vice president at Reebok International Ltd., where he developed the strategy, product and marketing communications for the company's global soccer, rugby, and footwear divisions, as well as all global sports marketing. He also fought for the initiation and development of the world's first self-contained soccer ball manufacturing facility in Sialkot, Pakistan, which resulted in removing children from the workplace and putting them in school. He was chosen for the Reebok Recognition Award for ending Child Labor in 1996. "I've worked with Peter for many years and he has a proven ability to build businesses and a true global perspective, which is obviously critical as Sega forges into online console gaming," said Paul Fireman, Chairman and CEO, Reebok International, Ltd. "When you back that up with his incredible passion and ability to connect with people, you have all the elements for a great leader."
